The objective resolution passed by Jawaharlal Nehru was accepted as the preamble of the constitution.  The amended prologue under the 42nd Amendment 197 is as follows We, the people of India, want to make India a sovereign, socialist, non-sectarian, democratic, republic and give all citizens of the country social, economic, political justice, freedom of thought, expression, belief, religion and worship, equality of opportunity and status and the dignity of the individual.  We also dedicate ourselves to adopting this fair constitution in this Constituent Assembly meeting on November 26, 1949, with a firm resolve to develop a brotherhood that guarantees unity and integrity to the country. The prologue is said to be the key to

 197 Under the Kerala State Case (1971) v. Keshavanand Bharti, the Supreme Court in 1973 rejected the judgment of the previous Berubari case (1960) and said that the preamble was part of the constitution.  And Parliament can amend it in a way that does not break the basic structure of the constitution contained in the preamble

 The words socialist secularism, integrity were added to the prologue under the 42nd Constitutional Amendment, 1976.
