Quiz On The life of Zaverchand meghani
On the previous day of his visit to England, Mahatma Gandhi was beset by despair as he knew that the British would not accept his demand for complete independence. Meghani wrote a poem "Chelau, Katoro" for Gandhi at that time and she asked Bapu to take the last sip of poison for the country. Meghani ji gave this poem written in the last few hours to Gandhi ji. After reading it, Gandhiji said that you understood my soul and wrote my mood in the poem with complete accuracy. At the same time, Gandhiji gave the title of national poet to Jhawarchand Meghani. Jhawarchand had a wide contribution in Gujarati folk literature. Being a folk songwriter, he tried to revive many forgotten folk cultures of Gujarat among the people.
He used his voice and knowledge to mobilize people against the might of the British Empire and save the voice of the dying folk traditions of the country. He went from village to village in search of folk tales and published them in different editions of Saurashtra-ni-Rasdhar. He was also the editor of Phoolchab newspaper of Janmabhoomi group which is published in Rajkot till date. In the poems of Meghani, there is a wonderful description of the soul of Saurashtra and its sensation in the stories. For thousands of years Juno amari pains. Heart ache trembling Am fear stories.
Such lines are proof that in his voice there was a strong belief of non-violent revolution. His poems are still taught as a part of the syllable in Gujarat Board Schools (GSEB). The house where Meghani ji was born was converted into a museum by the Gujarat government. His life and work are preserved in this museum by his grandson Pinakin Meghani. A memorial institute has also been built in the memory of Jhawarchand by Pinakin Meghani. Pinakine Meghani says, “Our aim is to connect the younger generations with traditional music so that they feel proud of their culture”.
